New Visual Studio 2005 Add-in is available in FINCAD Developer v11

It is faster than ever before to develop applications using FINCAD Developer because of the new Add-in feature.

The FINCAD Developer v11 installation now offers you the option of enabling a Visual Studio 2005 Add-in feature. Checking the “Enable Visual Studio Add-in" box at the end of the install process will cause the new Visual Studio 2005 Add-in feature to be registered on your machine. The next time that you open Visual Studio 2005, you will see that a FINCAD menu is now available and the Function Finder component is now an integral part of the development environment.

What can you do with the new Visual Studio 2005 Add-in?

  1. View Function and Math reference pages
    1. Through the Function Finder, as in previous versions
    2. By selecting a FINCAD function name in the code and using the Context menu, you can now choose whether you want to view the pages in the IDE or with your Default Browser
  2. View User’s Guides for the languages supported by Visual Studio 2005, the First Time User Tutorial, or other help documents without having to open the Function Finder application first.
  3. Access short-cuts to FINCAD’s website to look at What’s New, FAQs, support program details, newsletter articles or release notes.
  4. Open the Function Finder, show example code and paste it directly into your application.
    1. The new configuration manager lets you control how examples are pasted into your application.

      The options are below:
      1. Function prototype only
      2. Function prototype plus error checking
      3. Complete examples, including static values for all inputs
    2. The Prog. Language combo-box in the Finder now defaults to the language being used in your Visual Studio Project.
      1. This feature can also be overridden using the Configuration Manager if you wish to add C examples into your C++ application or if you want to work in C++.NET instead. It can work the way you do.
  5. Use the Context Menu (i.e. right-click) and quickly access documentation and related examples for the FINCAD functions that you are working with.
    1. Select the Function name in your program and right-click to see the menu options
    2. The new Parameter Description option provides basic details about function inputs in a convenient pop-up box that can be moved around

Context Menu

Right clicking on a FINCAD function name within the IDE editor brings up a context menu, as shown below, where you have access to Function Finder, Function and Math Reference pages, Parameter Description and the ability to Show Examples for the selected function.

To view the descriptions and restrictions of each input parameter of the selected FINCAD function, simply bring up the context menu as mentioned above. Next, select Parameter Description under FINCAD to bring up the description dialog of the function as shown below.

Main Menu

As described above, the main menu provides the ability to access most of the documentation that is available through the Function Finder without needing to open the Finder. It also provides access to the Function Finder, so that you can use it as a search engine or to add code samples into your program.
