Our Compensation Philosophy

FINCAD is a knowledge-based business. The creation of shareholder wealth depends solely on the people who work for the organization. We value highly skilled, entrepreneurial people who desire success and recognize the value of being a member of the team.

In order to attract and retain highly skilled people, our compensation philosophy is designed to reward employees who are team players and who desire an intellectually challenging environment while achieving personal and corporate success. All compensation programs will be aligned with the needs of the shareholders by having portion of total compensation directly related to corporate profitability and corporate strategic objectives.

The FINCAD compensation program includes attractive base salary, together with a success-based annual cash incentive plan for all non-commissioned employees and a long term, option-based plan to reward exceptional contribution or performance.

Life doesn't stand still and neither do we. As an organization FINCAD strives to become better at everything we do. As individuals each of us knows that to have enriching working lives we all need to learn and grow. Facing new challenges and learning new things are what makes work fulfilling.

That's why FINCAD has implemented an Employee Learning Program. Each year the company allocates available funds to finance the further development of skills and abilities for every employee. Each employee works with his or her manager to create an Annual Learning Plan.
It may seem counterintuitive, but we want you to build your resume. In a knowledge business the company's resume is only as good as the sum of its team members' resumes. FINCAD is a great place to learn and grow.

Benefits

At FINCAD we know that nobody can afford to work for cash alone. That's why we provide each of our employees with a comprehensive benefits program. We also know that your health doesn't start 30 days after you join the company. That's why your benefits plan will start the day you start.
Benefit plan premium payments are shared 50-50 between the company and the employee and are structured to provide the best tax consequences for the employee. Insurance coverage includes employee's spouses, life partners and dependents. The following information is a summary of our benefit programs, full details are included in the FINCAD Employee Reference Manual.

Health Insurance

Health insurance coverage includes basic coverage from the Medical Services Plan of British Columbia and extended health coverage from Manulife that includes prescription drug coverage (80% of the first $1,000 and 100% of the balance), eye exams, global emergency travel assistance and paramedical services.

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is provided by Manulife and covers 80% of basic services and 50% of major restorative work with a limit of $3,000 per person per calendar year

Life & AD&D Insurance

Provided by RBC Insurance, life insurance provides 1 x annual earnings, AD&D insurance provides 1 x annual earnings. Dependent life is also available.

Long Term Disability

Provided by RBC Insurance, long term disability coverage is 66 2/3% of the first $2500, plus 50% of the balance per month.

Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)

EAP is a voluntary, confidential, counseling, advisory and information service for you and your family members. Counsellors can be accessed in office settings or over the telephone. This service is provided by FGI. Confidentiality ensures that no information about the user will be given to others (including anyone in the workplace or management).

Time Off

FINCAD provides ten statutory holidays per year. Three of these days are fixed on January 1, December 25 and December 26. Seven statutory holidays are floating and can be taken on the normal statutory holidays or be used at other times at the employee's discretion with management approval.
Annual vacation begins with three weeks after one year and climbs to four weeks after four years. In the first year of employment you can take one week after six months.

Perks

FINCAD employees enjoy many perks including: free coffee, teas, sodas and juices; free use of a well equipped gym; free parking; and regular Lunch and Learns.
Ministry of Fun
Operated by the employees, the Ministry of Fun organizes regular social and sporting activities that are paid for by the company, by the employees or are cost shared. Some events are organized for employees, some for employees and their families and some for employees' children.

A Great PLACE to Work

Work is more than just who you work with and what you do. It's where you do it, too. FINCAD's offices are located in the Central City Tower in Surrey, a unique and modern high-tech friendly office tower.

Central City won a global design award in 2004 for its stunning design and its innovative combination of a university facility with an office tower and major shopping mall.

Central City provides a sophisticated urban environment in a suburban location close to an ample supply of attractive housing, ranging from sea-side apartments to condominiums and detached housing. More than 25% of metropolitan Vancouver's work force lives in Surrey, yet only 4% are able to work here.

Our offices are bright, airy and professional, as well as 100% open-plan. Not even the CEO has a private office. That way everyone enjoys the bright natural light from floor to ceiling windows and a spectacular 270 degree view of the Coastal Mountains and metropolitan Vancouver.

Our facility is co-located with the newest campus of Simon Fraser University, BC's second largest university. SFU Surrey is a research-oriented campus that focuses on Computing Science, Business Administration and Interactive Arts and Technology.

The attached mall includes more than 100 shops and services including restaurants and a food fair, all under the same roof.

Unlike downtown offices, parking is free. However, across the street is a SkyTrain light rail station that travels to the center of Vancouver in less than 35 minutes, as well as a major bus terminal that connects to all parts of greater Vancouver. Working at FINCAD means you can commute to work from anywhere in greater Vancouver in a reasonable time and avoid the rush hour crush to and from downtown Vancouver.

Vancouver Lifestyle

Working at FINCAD means living in metropolitan Vancouver. Vancouver was voted "Best City in the Americas" in 2004 by Conde Nast Traveler magazine, based on the categories of ambience, friendliness, culture and sites, restaurants, lodging, and shopping. This is just one of our city's many awards and accolades that clearly demonstrate the many reasons to live in metropolitan Vancouver.
